SSMU Environment Commissioners
Our Mandate
The Environment Commissioners are charged with facilitating dialogue between the community and SSMU on environmental matters. This includes taking-up the concerns of walk-in students, staff, and faculty. It also includes coalition-building between student environmentalist groups, and helping promote their work to the campus community. It further calls for the proactive creation of new spaces and opportunities for environmental activism to flourish within and without SSMU.
Some Details
- The Environment Commissioners are appointed annually by the outgoing executive, alongside all other commissioners.
- The Commissioners sit with the Legislative Council’s Environment Committee to initiate green changes within Shatner and SSMU. This Committee comprises the SSMU President, two elected Councillors, the Commissioners, 12 volunteer positions, and members-at-large.
- The Commissioners also sit on McGill’s Senate Subcommittee on the Environment, a multi-stakeholder body responsible for overseeing the University’s environmental impact
